Good morning. This morning I started reading Chapter 2 of Practical Approach to Electroencephalography. The chapter is called "Visual Analysis of the EEG: Wakefulness, Drowsiness, and Sleep".
I'm slowly making my way through the chapter. I have to pause frequently to look up definitions for terms I'm not familiar with. Mainly, the terms used for the different brain regions. I will become more familiar with these terms, and after reading them over and over, I'm starting to get used to them.
But I have to consciously pause, make the mental map of where the "posterior" part of the brain way is, to then understand where the "posterior rhythm" is happening.
Even though I learned about the different sensor names used by the 10-20 System, I wasn't perfectly familiar with the general names of the brain regions as described by the system. So I Googled maps of the EEG brain regions, and now I'm familiar with the 6 brain regions. Even though it's slow for me to know which region is where.
The six regions are (Fp) Frontopolar, (F) Frontal, (T) Temporal, (P) Parietal, (C) Central, and (O) Occipital.
As I continue to read the chapter, I find it fascinating that there are patterns of brain activity that can be reliably associated with what a person is doing (or how they're "feeling").
For example, there are very particular brain activity patterns that show when a person is awake with their eyes closed. There are also brain activity patterns for drowsy states, and for different sleep stages.
How many more brain activities are yet to be discovered???
The possibilities excite me.
